An Alys Beach home is built around its courtyard. Guests eat there, sit there in the evening, and it is the part of the house they remember. Leaves, sand, and glasses collect there exactly as they would in a living room, and the walls around it are the same white that shows every mark.
We treat courtyards as interior rooms on the turn: surfaces wiped down, furniture and cushions straightened, the floor cleared and washed where it needs it, and the pool surround left dry and free of debris rather than merely swept.
